Un equipo de científicos rusos planea publicar en noviembre del 2020 un álbum con fotos de microorganismos hallados dentro del meteorito Orgueil. Este pedazo de roca espacial cayó en Francia en 1864, trayendo consigo vida que pudo haber nacido mucho antes de que se formase el sistema solar.
Los investigadores del Instituto Paleontológico de la Academia de Ciencias de Rusia y del Instituto Unido de Investigaciones Nucleares han utilizado un microscopio electrónico para sacar estas imágenes en alta resolución de estos microalienígenas. Lo consiguieron cooperando con el famoso académico estadounidense Richard Hoover.
«Las imágenes que hemos obtenido son inequívocas y fáciles de interpretar. Sin embargo, habrá muchos debates sobre ello. La gente que nunca trabajó en este ámbito es la que más discute», comentó el científico.
Los rastros de materia orgánica han estado hallándose durante muchos años en todas las condritas carbonáceas. Se trata de meteoritos que se formaron de la materia prima del sistema solar y que pudieron haber existido antes de que este apareciese. Orgueil no es una excepción. Si bien su edad actualmente se desconoce, los científicos no descartan que este meteorito pueda ser muy antiguo.
«Mucho se ha encontrado desde aquel entonces [1864], pero no fue interpretado adecuadamente para no asustar a la gente», explicó a Sputnik uno de los directivos del Instituto Unido de Investigaciones Nucleares, Alexéi Rozanov.
Entre los rastros de microorganismos hallados dentro del meteorito francés destacan unos organismos magnetotácticos petrificados que solo podían surgir en un objeto con un campo magnético y agua. Es decir, en un planeta, y no en un cometa o dentro de él, aclaró el científico de la misma entidad docente Mijaíl Kapralov.
Además, en el interior del Orgueil se descubrieron fósiles similares a formas cocoides, las procariotas, los acritarcos, los protistas, los alveolados y algunas variedades de amebas. Los rastros de algas unicelulares fueron los últimos en hallarse.
Durante su investigación los científicos rusos buscaron vida dentro del meteorito y no en su superficie porque algunos de los microorganismos pudieron haber acabado pegándose a la roca tras su impacto contra la Tierra. Y los que se hallan en su interior pueden ser aquellos que el objeto había traído consigo desde el espacio.
«Como mínimo demostramos lo que se sabía desde hace más de 20 años, que hay vida en el espacio. Al menos la había», resumió el investigador ruso.
